Welcome, my name is Kala Viv Williams.  This blogs focus is:  supporting you through a Thunderbolt experience to Transformation to Thriving.  A Thunderbolt experience is job loss, serious illness, divorce- something that shakes you to your core and feels like you’ve been hit by lightening.

Read, comment and contact me if you:

  • are stressed, and anxious about what choices to make
  • want to leave your job because of workplace bullying or hostile work environment
  • depressed as you feel there is no good choice
  • Coping with crisis but feeling overwhelmed

I’ve been through all of the above, see my story below and my qualifications;  prior to full time academia position,  I was a yoga teacher and heavily into spirituality, wellness and holistic health.  All of which helped me to survive a truly brutal work situation.   So  using the tools of  the Yoga of Manifestation- practical spiritual tools, I’ve survived and you can too, and live your dreams.  Send e-mail.

MY STORY:

The daily intuitive reading I’d just pulled for myself said: you have knowledge that can help others through teaching, writing or speaking and that is your mission. It stressed that sharing my story in this way would help me and others to heal,(read in story form published at Elephant Journal, part 1 and Pt. 2 The Icestorm,) or brief paragraph version under “then.” At that point finishing the reading and putting the cards away I got choked up as I felt emotion arising.

THEN:

I had been a professor. As the child of immigrant parents who had less than a high school education, that was a big deal…(continue my story short version.)

NOW (my RIGHT brain work):

I’m currently working on a book about my experiences tentatively titled “The Zen of Crisis.”  And have just excerpted portions to create the Zen of Crisis, kit.  I teach yoga and practice shiatsu bodywork,  in my local area of Western Mass.   Send e-mail.

DETAILED BIO:

YOGA

I am a certified teacher and practitioner of 17 years, I blend Kripalu and Ashtanga yoga into a vinyasa form.  While in living in NYC, I regularly took classes with Dharma Mittra (a truly divinely inspired teacher,) and Alan Finger, I also studied Ashtanga with David Swenson.  For three years, I ran Sattva Yoga & Wellness, a small studio in midtown Manhattan.  And got featured in several magazines, including Self, Yoga Journal and Essence. I was a board member of the New York Yoga Teachers Association.  I’ve taught at workshops and ongoing classes to faculty, staff and students at colleges including the Graduate Center of City University of N.Y, N.Y.U, NY Sports Clubs; as well as a roster of private clients in NYC.  My video for beginners–Start with Yoga was sold by a division of Book-of-the Month Club/Doubleday. I studied macrobiotics and holistic health at Gulliver’s Living and Learning Center (now called the Institute for Integrative Nutrition) in NYC.

MASSAGE

After deciding to leave academia I enrolled in a comprehensive 1,000 hour massage therapy program at the Onondaga School of Therapeutic Massage, in 2007.   This complements my additional training in shiatsu from the International School of Shiatsu, in Doylestown, PA.

MEDITATION

I’ve graduated the 18 month, Mindfulness Yoga and Meditation Training program at Spirit Rock Meditation Center.  I began meditation in the early 90′s. Since 2001 I got serious!  I have “sat” over five months of intensive silent, residential meditation retreats.   My Western teachers include Myoshin Kelley and Joseph Goldstein.  I also have practiced under the guidance of Chanmay Sayadaw and Sayadaw U Pandita, for four and six weeks respectively, both are highly respected Burmese monks and meditation masters. Most of this practice takes place at the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, MA.
